Faculty

The Green River College Welding Technology Program has knowledgeable instructors with over four decades of combined experience in the welding industry which translates into a broad understanding of the vast and various processes used in the welding industry today. Their ability to perform as proficient welders in the field is demonstrated in the classroom and welding/metal fabrication shop. Having a commitment to remain familiar with the changing technology in the welding industry, the instructors maintain WABO certifications in many different welding processes and continually expand their knowledge, thereby enhancing the student's learning experience in the Trades Division at Green River College.

Scott Schreiber

Scott Schreiber

Scott Schreiber, head welding instructor at Green River College, possesses an innate ability to connect with his students, a tenacious drive for excellence, and continuous improvement, ingenuity, and a strong commitment to improving the welding trade.

After taking over as the welding instructor in 2001, Scott surrounds himself with passionate and skilled staff to help expand the welding department into a bigger, more technologically adavanced program in a state-of-the-art trades facility at the main college campus in Auburn, Washington.

Scott demands excellence, continuous improvement, and is always in search of creative and meaningful learning opportunities for his students. He is committed to the welding trade and asserts ownership over a trades career program that has meant so much to him throughout his entire adult life. Most impressive is his ability to connect with each of his students in a positive, dynamic, and energetic comraderie where he recognizes each individual has goals, problems, strengths, weaknesses, and personalities that contribute to the integral part of the bigger world of welding craftspersons. The GRC Welding Technology program has a reputation for developing strong, independent, competent, and responsible welders. Scott philosophy is simple: "Come to class, show up on time, we'll do the rest." This is reflected in the success of students who are committed, serious, and open-minded as they learn to be free-thinking, accountable, and confident welders who can communicate and problem-solve.

Casper Fox

Casper Fox

Casper Fox is a Welding Technology graduate who was working in the industry even before he graduated from college, working at both Enumclaw and Snoqualmie Weyerhaeuser plants as well as landing a job with Chet Williams Construction (where he continues to work part time). This allows him to stay active with welding in real world applications.

Having worked in the welding and metal fabrication industry for about five years, Casper returned for a brief time to perfect his skills in TIG welding, taking a full time job with Helac while opening the opportunity to work part time as the welding instructional aide for Scott Schreiber. In 2010, Casper was offered a position to teach the weekend classes for one quarter as the Welding program continued to expand. This meant Casper worked a 40-hour job, taught the 20-hour weekend Welding class, while continuing with 16 hours a week as the instructional aide in the Welding program. This reflects a high level of commitment and passion for welding and metal fabrication.

Casper accepted a full time position in 2011 with Green River College as adjunct faculty for the Welding Tech program. He continues to share his working knowledge and expertise in many welding styles, equiping the students with skills needed in the industry while conveying his passion for welding and  a strong commitment to the skilled trades industry.

Ben Orr

Ben Orr

Ben Orr went out into the real world and began his welding career after graduating from the Welding Technology program in 2004. He worked for many different companies, some metal fabrication, manufacturing, and repair shops. In 2013, Ben was offered a chance to teach as an adjunct faculty member at Green River College to fill in for a quarter. From that moment, he was hooked on teaching. Ben became Casper Fox's instructional aide for about a year-and-a-half before being offered to teach the weekend classes. During this time, Ben continued to work full-time jobs in the welding industry during the weekdays and instructing over the weekends and has been offering students his expertise in the welding industry ever since.

Ben is proud several accomplishments in his life, including his wife, four kids, and his career as a welding instructor. Ben enjoys the people he works with and all the students he meets each new quarter. Having a connection to the community and several welding businesses, Ben is excited to take on the responsibilities to help grow the welding program. He is thrilled at getting the robotic welding class as a way to increase the technological advances in the welding industry and pass along that knowedge to the Green River College students.

Elizabeth Dargie

Elisabeth Dargie

Elisabeth (Liz) Dargie shows a terrific commitment to the welding technonlogy program at Green River College. She is an accomplished welder in various styles and techniques that demonstrate high-level skills and expertise that is readily passed on to the students.

Liz had never welded before enrolling in the GRC Welding Tech weekend classes under Casper Fox, but she thought it might be something worth experiencing. Liz was amazed to discover how much she enjoyed welding, even though it is heavily dominated by males in the trade.

Before she even graduated, Liz was offered an apprenticeship position for pile driving with the Local 196 union. She began working on the Elliot Bay Seawall project and stayed there for nearly three years. During that time, Liz was fortunate to work with an amazing crew that she viewed as her "family" outside of her family. Liz was featured in the Seattle Times in an article about women in the skilled trades. Scott Schreiber offered a position as an instructional aide, then shortly after the new Trades Technology complex was completed, Liz accepted a position as the evening instructor for the Welding Tech program. In addition, Liz has returned to school, currently attending Saint Martin's University where she is pursuing a degree in civil engineering. Students are fortunate to have a skilled instructor who shares her passion for the skilled trades.
